Pure Roots is founded on the Naturopathic Principles of treating the whole person (mind, body, and spirit), doing no harm, practitioner as teacher, and honoring the healing power of nature (The Therapeutic Order). The focus is on removing the obstacles to health and coming along side the body to nourish and support what it already knows to do.
At Pure Roots Nutrition, I believe in optimizing human potential and I believe anything is possible. I look at you as a unique person and with your own health picture. My approach is evidence-based, intuitive, and personalized as we know one size does not fit everyone. It’s important to me to meet people where they are, to learn about each person’s story, preferences, values, lifestyle, goals, dreams, and how all those pieces fit together. It also means we’ll talk about your sleep, movement, time spent in nature, connection, and purpose as aspects of your health picture.
Simply put, I believe wholesome food and a healthy lifestyle are the best medicines for leading a vibrant life now and preventing disease down the road. In turn, I focus on “eating real food, not too much, mostly plants” (Michael Pollan). This also means, as much as possible, the aim is for organic, fresh, local, whole foods that are closest to how nature made them. We avoid/minimize inflammatory, sugar-laden, blood-sugar-spiking packaged, ultra-processed food and drink “products”. With an emphasis on enjoying food and having a healthy relationship with it, there’s no calorie counting or measuring here (except to help you hit your protein targets, if needed). You learn to honor and listen to your own body to determine what is right for you. The best teacher and physician is – within.
Finally, we believe supporting our local farmers and sustainable agriculture is critical to our survival (literally); and that our food and lifestyle choices have a direct impact on our personal health, the collective health, and the health of the planet (home).
